How we use cookies
This page explains the cookies we use, why, and how you can control them.
What is a cookie?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They serve many functions, from recognising you on return visits to tracking how the site is used in aggregate.
Cookies we use
Strictly necessary cookies
Session cookies that keep the site functional (e.g. remember if you've accepted the cookie banner). These don't require consent under PECR.
Analytics cookies (consent required)
Google Analytics (_ga, _gid) — aggregate visitor analytics. Retention: 14 months.
Ahrefs Analytics — referrer and search-source tracking. Retention: 14 months.
Affiliate-tracking cookies (set by partner sites)
When you click an affiliate link to an insurer or comparison-site partner, that partner sets their own cookies on their domain to track your referral. We do not set these cookies; they are governed by the partner's privacy policy. Common partners include AWIN, Impact and individual insurer tracking pixels.
How to control cookies
You can accept or reject non-essential cookies via the consent banner on first visit. You can change your choice at any time via the "Cookie settings" link in our footer (coming soon). You can also manage cookies in your browser settings — see aboutcookies.org for browser-by-browser instructions.
Do Not Track
Our analytics implementation respects browser "Do Not Track" signals — visitors with DNT enabled are not tracked by Google Analytics or Ahrefs.
