How our research is written and checked

The rules behind every guide, index and comparison on this site — and what we will never publish.

Typical UK car insurance costs

Independent research from our UK cost index — sourced from ABI and Confused.com published data.

Information, not advice

Everything on Car Insurance Expert is information. We explain how car insurance is priced, what the rules are and what the data shows; we do not tell you which policy to buy, and we do not arrange, sell or compare policies. We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and a page here is not a personal recommendation. If you need advice on your own circumstances, you need a regulated broker or adviser, and our pages say so where it matters.

Sources

Regulatory statements come from the primary sources: the FCA, DVLA, the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, GOV.UK and the legislation itself. Market figures come from published industry data such as the ABI’s premium tracker and from our own structured research across vehicle models, conviction codes and insurance groups, as described on our methodology page. Where a figure is an estimate or a model output rather than a published statistic, the page says so.

Independence

The site is free to use and, at present, earns nothing: no commercial relationships with insurers, brokers or comparison sites, no affiliate links and no commission, as set out on how we get paid. No insurer or broker can pay to be mentioned, rated or ranked. If that ever changes, the change will be disclosed on that page and on any page it affects before it takes effect.

Corrections and updates

Premium data moves quickly, so every page carries its last-updated date and figures are refreshed when the data they rest on is republished. If you find an error, use the contact page or write to editorial@carinsuranceexpert.co.uk, and say which page. Reports are checked against the source and material corrections are made on the page itself.

What we will not publish

Sponsored content, paid rankings, invented reviews, or any claim about an insurer that we cannot source. We also do not publish content that presents itself as advice on what you personally should buy.
