Hyundai i10 SE Connect insurance cost UK 2026

A Hyundai i10 SE Connect costs about £565 a year to insure comprehensively in the UK in 2026, sitting in insurance groups 3–8 — the big-selling 1.0 MPi is group 4, roughly 6% below the ~£600 UK average premium. SE Connect was the volume trim of Britain's favourite city car from 2020 until the 2023 facelift renamed the range, so tens of thousands are on the used market — and almost all of them are among the cheapest cars in the country to cover. Below: premiums by driver age, how SE Connect compares with its sibling trims, cheaper routes in, and how to cut your quote.

How much does it cost to insure a Hyundai i10 SE Connect?

A typical experienced UK driver pays around £565 a year (£520–£620) to insure a Hyundai i10 SE Connect on comprehensive cover in 2026 — a little under the ~£600 UK average (the ABI's paid-premium tracker puts the market at £560, while Confused.com's quoted index runs at £719) and in line with Finder's £592 model-wide i10 average. Established drivers with a clean licence and off-street parking regularly see quotes from the £450–£500 mark.

Three things explain where SE Connect sits. First, tiny engines and low groups. Thatcham Research rates the volume 1.0 MPi 67PS manual at group 4 — and, unusually, the AMT automatic even lower at group 3 — while only the 84PS 1.2 MPi manual climbs to group 8. Second, city-car repair economics. The SE Connect's 15-inch alloys, simple halogen lights and cheap Hyundai parts keep accident claims small, and standard autonomous emergency braking suppresses low-speed shunts. Third, who drives it. The i10 attracts careful, lower-mileage owners, and that claims history feeds back into everyone's price. As a mid-range trim, SE Connect adds an 8-inch touchscreen, rear camera and alloys over the base SE without touching the mechanicals — so it costs pennies more to cover, not pounds. Hyundai i10 SE Connect insurance cost by driver age (2026)

Age moves an i10 SE Connect quote far more than anything about the car. The same group 4 hatchback that costs a driver in their fifties under £500 a year is quoted at three times that for a teenager — although as first cars go, this is one of the cheapest ways onto the road in Britain.

Ranges assume the 1.0 MPi SE Connect (group 4), a clean licence, no-claims discount where age allows, 6,000–8,000 miles a year and an average-risk postcode. City-centre postcodes, points or monthly payment push quotes above these bands.

SE Connect vs the rest of the i10 range

SE Connect is the range's sweet spot for insurance exactly as it was for buyers: it takes the base SE's group 4 rating and adds the touchscreen, rear camera and alloys that made it the best-seller. The engine choice matters more than the trim — the 1.2 MPi manual jumps four groups to 8, while the much-mocked AMT automated-manual gearbox is actually the cheapest of all to insure at group 3. Only the sportier N Line, with its 100PS turbo engine, meaningfully raises the price of an i10.

The 2023 facelift replaced SE Connect with the Advance trim (groups 1–6), so SE Connect is now a used-market buy — which itself keeps insured values and premiums low.

Cheaper alternatives — and how to cut an SE Connect quote

There is not much under an i10 SE Connect: it is already one of the cheapest cars in Britain to insure. If you want to shave off the last few pounds, a Kia Picanto 2 (group 1), Volkswagen Up 1.0 65PS (groups 1–2) or the facelifted i10 Advance 1.0 automatic (group 1) sit a rung lower — worth £20–£50 a year at most for an experienced driver, though considerably more for a 17-year-old. Within the SE Connect family, pick the 1.0 MPi (group 3–4) over the 1.2 manual (group 8) if the premium matters more than motorway urge.

Whichever variant you buy, the same tactics cut the quote:

  • Compare 3–4 weeks before renewal — the cheapest quoting window — across at least two comparison sites plus direct-only insurers.
  • Raise the voluntary excess to a level you could genuinely pay after a bump.
  • Set a realistic mileage. Most i10s cover well under 8,000 miles a year; over-declaring wastes money.
  • Park off-street where you can — postcode and overnight parking are two of the biggest levers on a small-car premium.
  • Consider telematics under 25. A black-box policy on a group 4 city car routinely saves young drivers 15–30%.
  • Pay annually — monthly instalments typically add 10–20% APR.

Hyundai i10 SE Connect insurance — your questions answered

The i10 SE Connect spans insurance groups 3–8 out of 50 in Thatcham Research figures published by Parkers. The volume 1.0 MPi 67PS manual is group 4, the 1.0 AMT automatic is group 3, the 1.2 MPi 84PS AMT is group 4 and the 1.2 MPi manual is the outlier at group 8.
Around £565 a year (typically £520–£620) for an experienced driver on comprehensive cover in 2026 — slightly under the ~£600 UK average and in line with Finder's £592 average for the i10 range as a whole. Careful older drivers in low-risk postcodes commonly pay £445–£550.
The 1.0 MPi, clearly. It sits in group 3 (AMT auto) or 4 (manual), while the 1.2 MPi manual jumps to group 8 because of its extra 17PS — worth roughly £40–£60 a year to a typical driver and more to a young one. The 1.2 AMT auto splits the difference at group 4.
No — unusually, it costs less. The 1.0 MPi AMT automatic is rated group 3 against group 4 for the manual, and the 1.2 AMT is group 4 against group 8 for the 1.2 manual. The automated-manual gearbox blunts performance slightly, and Thatcham's rating reflects that.
Typically £1,400–£1,850 a year comprehensive in 2026. That sounds steep, but it is close to the cheapest a new 17-year-old driver can be insured in the UK — the same driver in a group 15–20 hatchback would commonly be quoted £2,300–£3,000. A telematics policy, a named experienced driver and a modest annual mileage each trim the figure further.
Barely. Both the SE and SE Connect 1.0 MPi manual sit in group 4, because the extra kit — an 8-inch touchscreen, rear camera and 15-inch alloys — adds little to repair costs and nothing to performance. In practice quotes on the two trims usually land within £5–£15 of each other.
Yes. Hyundai dropped the SE Connect name at the 2023 facelift (the equivalent trim became Advance), so every SE Connect is now a used car — but a 2020–2023 example remains one of the UK's cheapest cars to insure, and falling used values gently pull premiums down each year. Insurers quote it exactly as they would any current model.
Choose the 1.0 MPi (group 3–4) rather than the 1.2 manual (group 8); compare quotes 3–4 weeks before renewal on at least two comparison sites plus direct-only insurers; raise your voluntary excess; declare a realistic sub-8,000-mile year; park off-street if possible; add telematics if you are under 25; and pay annually rather than monthly.
