Audi A5 Insurance Cost UK 2026
Insuring an Audi A5 costs around £1,454 a year on a comprehensive policy in 2026 — about £126 a month, and roughly 2.4 times the £600 UK average. The A5 spans insurance groups 24 to 48, starting at group 24 for the 2.0 TFSI S line and rising to the forties for S5 and top-specification cars. This page breaks the cost down by driver age and by variant.
What Audi A5 insurance actually costs in 2026
The average UK comprehensive premium for an Audi A5 is £1,453.66 a year, or £126.10 a month paid monthly, according to Finder’s 2026 model analysis of an A5 Sportback 2.0 TDI. That average blends drivers aged 20, 30, 40 and 50 across cheap, mid-range and expensive postcodes, so it is a fair midpoint rather than a quote. Against the roughly £600 UK average tracked on our 2026 Cost Index, the A5 costs about 2.4 times as much to insure.
The reason is group rating. The A5 line-up runs from group 24 to group 48 out of 50. The entry 2.0 TFSI petrol in S line trim sits at group 24; the 204hp petrol moves to group 31 and the 204hp 2.0 TDI diesel to group 32; specifying quattro all-wheel drive on the diesel takes it to group 34. That is a wide ladder, and it means the badge on the boot tells you far less about your premium than the engine and drivetrain underneath.
Usefully for buyers, the A5 is one of the cheaper compact executive cars to insure in relative terms — it undercuts the BMW 3 Series spec-for-spec and undercuts the Mercedes C-Class by a wider margin. But it remains an expensive car in absolute terms, and driver age moves the number far more than trim: a 17–24-year-old faces around £2,660, against roughly £935 for a driver over 65 on the same car.
Audi A5 premium by driver age
Age is the strongest single predictor of claims risk and moves an A5 premium further than any trim decision. The figures below scale our composite UK age curve to the A5’s £1,454 model average, for a driver with a clean licence on a comprehensive policy.

Where you park changes the A5 premium by £825
Postcode is the second-strongest rating factor after age, and on a car at the A5’s value the regional spread is wide. Inner London combines theft risk, congestion and uninsured-driver rates — over a million uninsured drivers use UK roads, funding a Motor Insurers’ Bureau levy of roughly £15 on every honest policy. The South West and North East are consistently the cheapest regions.
| Region | Typical annual premium | vs A5 average (£1,454) |
|---|---|---|
| London (Inner) | £1,975 | +36% |
| North West | £1,600 | +10% |
| West Midlands | £1,525 | +5% |
| Scotland | £1,225 | −16% |
| South West | £1,150 | −21% |
| North East | £1,150 | −21% |

Six ways to lower an Audi A5 premium
An A5 will never insure like a supermini, but the difference between an auto-renewal and a properly shopped policy on the same car regularly runs to several hundred pounds a year.
- Pick the engine deliberately. The 150hp TFSI at group 24 versus a 204hp quattro diesel at group 34 is roughly £270 a year, every year you own the car.
- Shop 3–4 weeks before renewal. Prices are typically keenest around three weeks out, and renewal quotes are rarely the cheapest available.
- Park off-road overnight. Premium German cars are a keyless-relay theft target; UK theft payouts hit £669m, up 35%. A driveway or garage measurably moves the price.
- Protect your no-claims discount once you have four or five years — at A5 premium levels the protection usually pays for itself in one claim.
- Keep mileage accurate. Under-declaring to shave the premium can be treated as misrepresentation and jeopardise a claim.
- Use a specialist broker for S5 and above. Once you are past group 40, mainstream comparison panels thin out and performance specialists often win.
