Citroen C3 insurance cost UK 2026
Citroen C3 insurance averages about £673 a year for comprehensive cover in 2026, with the current 2024-on hatchback in insurance group 23 — yet older C3s sit as low as group 2, and the 2017–2024 PureTech 82/83 versions rate a gentle group 8. That spread makes the C3 one of the widest-priced superminis on the road: a sensible used one undercuts the ~£719 UK average quoted premium comfortably, while the new hybrid and the electric e-C3 (group 24) cost noticeably more to cover. Groups by version, premiums by age and the cheapest ways to insure one are below.
Why Citroen C3 insurance costs what it does
For a typical experienced driver, comprehensive cover on a Citroen C3 averages around £673 a year in 2026 (Finder UK quote sampling) — about 6% below the ~£719 average quoted premium in the Confused.com Price Index, and above the ~£560 the ABI says motorists actually paid on average (quoted and paid figures are different bases, so never compare one directly with the other). Which side of that average you land on depends almost entirely on which C3 you pick, because the model spans three very different rating eras:
- Classic supermini economics on older cars (groups 2–8) — 2017–2024 C3s with the 82/83hp PureTech petrol engine rate just group 8 across Touch, Feel, Origins and Flair trims, and Finder puts the oldest C3s as low as group 2. Modest power, a low list price and cheap, plentiful parts keep both claims costs and premiums small.
- A big rating jump on the 2024-on generation (group 23) — every current C3 trim (Plus, Collection and Max, whether 1.2 PureTech, 1.2 Turbo or Hybrid 110 e-DCS6) rates group 23. A higher list price, the hybrid drivetrain and standard driver-assistance kit — including a windscreen camera that needs recalibrating after a glass replacement — push repair bills, and therefore the Thatcham group, sharply up.
- EV repair economics on the e-C3 (group 24) — the electric e-C3 rates group 24 on every trim. Its 44kWh battery is the single most expensive component on the car, and battery inspection or replacement after even moderate accident damage keeps EV claims costs — and groups — higher than the petrol equivalent.
One thing the C3 does not carry is a theft premium: unlike hot hatches and premium SUVs, it is not a target for organised theft, and its claims profile is dominated by low-speed urban knocks — one reason even the group 23 new model still quotes reasonably for experienced drivers.
Citroen C3 insurance cost by driver age

The age rows are for an older group 2 C3 — the cheapest route into C3 ownership — while the final row is Finder’s average across all C3 versions and ages. A 2024-on car in group 23, or an e-C3 in group 24, will quote above the age-row figures shown here (Finder’s group 24 sample for a 30-year-old was about £773 a year).

The cheapest way to insure a Citroen C3
Pick the version before you pick the insurer. The single biggest lever is the 15-group gap between generations: a 2017–2024 PureTech 82 or 83 in group 8 — Touch, Feel, Origins or Flair Nav Edition — will always undercut a group 23 2024-on car for the same driver, and Finder’s sampling shows an older C3 costing an over-50 as little as about £406 a year. For a young driver the difference is starker still: the group 2 sample quote at age 20 was £766, while a group 24 car quoted £1,180 for the same age.
Then work the policy itself. Pay annually if you possibly can — Finder’s C3 monthly figure of £61.04 works out around £732 a year, roughly 9% more than the £673 annual average. A black box (telematics) policy routinely takes hundreds off a young C3 driver’s quote; a realistic annual mileage, an off-road or driveway parking spot, a sensible voluntary excess and an experienced named driver all trim the price further. And because the C3 straddles the car/EV divide, always compare like-for-like: petrol, hybrid and electric versions can sit with different insurers’ sweet spots.
Considering alternatives? If the new C3’s group 23 rating stings, the obvious swap is a late 2017–2024 C3 in group 8 rather than a different badge. Going electric, note that the e-C3’s group 24 is high for a budget EV — the Renault 5 starts at group 19 and the BYD Dolphin Surf from group 14 (RAC) — so it pays to quote all three before committing.
