Peugeot 108 insurance cost UK 2026

A Peugeot 108 costs around £644 a year to insure on a typical comprehensive policy in 2026, and sits in insurance groups 6 to 13 — roughly 10% below the UK average quoted premium of £719 (Confused.com Price Index, Q2 2026). The cheapest version, the 1.0 Access in group 6, drops to about £451 a year for a 50-year-old driver, which is why the 108 remains one of the cheapest cars on UK roads to insure. Version-by-version premiums, age-band quotes and the tactics that cut the price further are all below.

How much does Peugeot 108 insurance cost?

Insuring a Peugeot 108 in 2026 costs an average of about £644 a year for a comprehensive policy, based on Finder UK quote research published in April 2026 (drivers aged 20–50, three years’ no-claims discount, £500 voluntary excess, 10,000 miles a year). That is a quoted-price figure, so the like-for-like benchmark is Confused.com’s £719 average quote for Q2 2026 — not the ABI’s £560 average premium actually paid, which includes cheaper renewing customers and is measured on a different basis.

The spread across the range is wide for such a small car. A 50-year-old on a group 6 1.0 Access can pay about £451 a year, while a 20-year-old on a group 11 Allure 1.2 PureTech faces around £1,136. Every version, at every age band Finder tested, still quoted below the £719 UK average — a claim very few model ranges can make.

Three reasons the 108 is so cheap to insure

1. A tiny engine and modest performance

Every 108 uses a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine of 68–72hp (the early 1.2 PureTech made 82hp). With 0–62mph taking around 13–14 seconds, the claims profile insurers price against — speed-related accidents, expensive third-party injury claims — is about as benign as it gets. That is what anchors the range’s entry point at group 6 of 50.

2. Cheap, plentiful parts shared with the Toyota Aygo and Citroën C1

The 108 was built alongside the Toyota Aygo and Citroën C1 at the TPCA joint-venture plant in Kolín, Czech Republic, sharing its platform and most mechanical parts across three high-volume model lines. Repair costs — roughly half of the group-rating calculation Thatcham performs — are correspondingly low: panels are small and simple, parts supply is deep, and there is little of the ADAS sensor hardware (radar cruise, complex windscreen camera clusters) that inflates repair bills on newer city cars.

3. Low market value caps the insurer’s worst case

Production ended in late 2021, and used values now run from roughly £3,500 to £9,000. A low maximum payout for theft or a total loss, combined with an unremarkable theft profile — the 108 does not appear among the UK’s most-stolen models — keeps the fire-and-theft element of the premium small. The trade-off: the 108’s popularity with young and newly qualified drivers means the driver sat behind the wheel often adds back what the car itself saves.

The cheapest way to insure a Peugeot 108 — and the alternatives

The single biggest lever is version choice. The gap between a group 6 Access and a group 11–13 PureTech version is worth £100–£190 a year for a 30-year-old — on a car often worth under £6,000, that is a material slice of running costs. Beyond that:

  • Buy the 1.0, not the 1.2 PureTech. The 1.0 versions sit in groups 6–9; the 1.2 PureTech tops rate 11–13 with no meaningful insurance upside.
  • Young drivers: use a telematics policy. A black box on a group 6 Access is one of the cheapest routes onto the road at 17–20, and the 108’s low group means uninsured-performance temptation is minimal.
  • Pay annually if you can. Finder’s own figures show monthly payment at £58.65 (£704/year) versus £644 paid up front — a ~9% premium for instalments.
  • Set mileage honestly but accurately. Most 108s are short-hop city cars; declaring a realistic 6,000–8,000 miles rather than a default 10,000 usually trims the quote.
  • Add a named experienced driver (a parent, for instance) if you are young — but never “front” by insuring the car in the parent’s name.
  • Shop 3–4 weeks before renewal, when insurers price new business most keenly.

If you are choosing between city cars, the 108’s TPCA siblings — the Toyota Aygo and Citroën C1 — occupy near-identical low groups for equivalent versions, while the Volkswagen up!, Kia Picanto and Hyundai i10 also start in the very lowest bands. Peugeot 108 insurance FAQs

The Peugeot 108 spans insurance groups 6 to 13 on the 1–50 scale. The entry-level 1.0 Access sits in group 6 — one of the lowest ratings on the UK used market — with 1.0 Active and Access 72 versions in groups 6–9. The 1.2 PureTech versions (Allure, Collection, Top) rate highest at groups 11–13.
A typical comprehensive policy averages around £644 a year (Finder UK, April 2026). Drivers aged 40–50 commonly see £450–£550 on the lower-group versions, 30-year-olds around £510–£730, and 20-year-olds roughly £840–£1,140 depending on the version.
The 1.0 Access 3-door in insurance group 6. Finder’s 2026 quote data puts it at about £451 a year for a 50-year-old, £474 at 40 and £864 at 20 — the lowest of any 108 version at almost every age band.
Yes, relatively. A 20-year-old faces roughly £840–£1,140 a year on a 108 — high in absolute terms but well below what the same driver would pay on a larger or higher-group car. A telematics (black box) policy on a group 6–8 version usually cuts that further.
Three structural reasons: a low-powered 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine (68–72hp), cheap and plentiful parts shared with the Toyota Aygo and Citroën C1, and low used values (roughly £3,500–£9,000) that cap the maximum theft or write-off payout an insurer faces.
Mechanically, largely yes. All three were built alongside each other at the TPCA joint-venture plant in Kolín, Czech Republic, sharing a platform and most parts — which is why all three sit in similarly low insurance groups and are cheap to repair.
It rates three to seven groups higher (groups 11–13 versus 6–9 for the 1.0), which typically adds £100–£190 a year for a 30-year-old — Finder quotes the Allure 1.2 PureTech at £681 against £548 for a 1.0 Access.
No — production ended in late 2021 and Peugeot did not directly replace it. Every 108 on the road is now a used car, and steadily falling values are one reason premiums keep edging down as the fleet ages.
