Citroen C5 Aircross insurance cost UK 2026

Citroen C5 Aircross insurance averages about £894 a year for comprehensive cover in 2026 on our composite sample, with the mainstream petrol and hybrid versions rating insurance groups 16 to 20 and the plug-in hybrid and electric versions climbing to groups 27–30. That puts the C5 Aircross around 24% above the ~£719 UK average quoted premium — the 1.2 PureTech 130 and Hybrid 145 trims keep costs sensible, while the 1.6 Plug-in Hybrid 225 and the electric ë-C5 Aircross cost noticeably more to cover. Groups by version, premiums by age and the cheapest ways to insure one are below.

Why Citroen C5 Aircross insurance costs what it does

For a typical experienced driver, comprehensive cover on a Citroen C5 Aircross averages around £894 a year in 2026 on our composite quote sample — about 24% above the ~£719 average quoted premium in the Confused.com Price Index, and well above the ~£560 the ABI says motorists actually paid on average (quoted and paid figures are measured on different bases, so never compare one directly with the other). The C5 Aircross is a mid-size family SUV, and where you land on that average depends almost entirely on which version you pick, because the badge spans three very different rating bands:

  1. Petrol and diesel mainstream (groups 16–19) — the 1.2 PureTech 130 petrol rates group 16 in entry Sense trim on the 2018–2025 car, rising to group 19 on higher trims, and the 1.5 BlueHDi 130 diesel sits at groups 17–19. These are the cheapest C5 Aircross versions to insure: a group 16 petrol is where the range starts, and a 50-year-old on that car quotes about £705 a year on our sample.
  2. The 2025-on Hybrid 145 (groups 18–20) — the current self-charging 1.2 Hybrid 145 rates group 18 in You trim, 19 in Plus and 20 in Max and Max Edition. A modest step up from the old petrol, the mild-hybrid drivetrain, a higher list price and standard driver-assistance kit — including a windscreen camera that needs recalibrating after a glass replacement — nudge repair bills, and therefore the Thatcham group, upwards.
  3. Plug-in hybrid and electric (groups 27–30) — the 1.6 Plug-in Hybrid rates groups 27–28 on the 2018–2025 car and the newer 225hp version groups 29–30, while the fully electric ë-C5 Aircross spans groups 27–30. The high-voltage battery is the single most expensive component on the car, and battery inspection or replacement after even moderate accident damage keeps these claims costs — and groups — far higher than the petrol equivalents.

The pattern is the same one that runs through the whole Citroen range: it is the drivetrain, not the C5 Aircross name itself, that decides the premium. A mainstream petrol or hybrid carries no theft premium — the C5 Aircross is not a target for organised theft, and its claims profile is dominated by low-speed urban and car-park knocks — while the plug-in and electric versions carry the EV repair-cost loading that sits on almost every battery car in 2026.

The cheapest way to insure a Citroen C5 Aircross

Pick the version before you pick the insurer. The single biggest lever is the group gap between drivetrains: a 1.2 PureTech 130 or a Hybrid 145 in groups 16–20 will always undercut a plug-in hybrid or electric ë-C5 Aircross in groups 27–30 for the same driver. On our sample a group 16 petrol costs a 50-year-old about £705 a year; the equivalent plug-in or EV can quote several hundred pounds more for an identical profile, purely on the battery repair loading. For a young driver the gap is starker still.

Then work the policy itself. Pay annually if you possibly can — monthly instalments typically add around 7–10% in interest over the year. A black box (telematics) policy routinely takes hundreds off a young C5 Aircross driver’s quote; a realistic annual mileage, an off-road or driveway parking spot, a sensible voluntary excess and an experienced named driver all trim the price further. Because the C5 Aircross straddles petrol, hybrid, plug-in and electric, always compare like-for-like — the drivetrains can sit with different insurers’ sweet spots, and a quote that is competitive on the petrol can be poor on the EV.

Considering alternatives? If the plug-in or electric group 27–30 rating stings, the obvious swap is the self-charging Hybrid 145 in groups 18–20 rather than a different badge. If you want a smaller, cheaper Citroen, the Citroen C4 averages about £787 a year and the Citroen C3 about £673 — some £107 and £221 less than the C5 Aircross respectively. Citroen C5 Aircross insurance — your questions answered

It depends on the version. The 1.2 PureTech 130 petrol rates groups 16–19 on the 2018–2025 car and the 1.5 BlueHDi 130 diesel groups 17–19. The current 2025-on 1.2 Hybrid 145 rates group 18 in You trim, 19 in Plus and 20 in Max. The 1.6 Plug-in Hybrid rates groups 27–28 on the older car and 29–30 on the 225hp version, and the fully electric ë-C5 Aircross spans groups 27–30. So the range runs from group 16 to group 30 depending on drivetrain and trim.
Our 2026 composite sample puts the all-versions Citroen C5 Aircross average at about £894 a year for comprehensive cover — around 24% above the ~£719 UK average quoted premium in the Confused.com Price Index. On a group 16 1.2 PureTech 130 the samples ran from about £705 a year at age 50 to £1,340 at age 20. A plug-in hybrid or electric version in groups 27–30 quotes higher again.
Because of the battery. The 1.6 Plug-in Hybrid rates groups 27–28 on the 2018–2025 car and 29–30 on the newer 225hp version — roughly 10 groups above the petrol. The high-voltage battery is the most expensive single component on the car, and after even moderate accident damage it often needs specialist inspection or replacement, which makes claims far dearer to settle. Higher power and a higher list price add to it. If running costs allow, the self-charging Hybrid 145 in groups 18–20 is much cheaper to cover.
No — it is a little dearer, on average. Our all-versions C5 Aircross figure of about £894 a year sits roughly 24% above the ~£719 UK average quoted comprehensive premium in the Confused.com Price Index (June 2026). It is a mid-size family SUV rather than a supermini, so its groups start higher. Note the ABI’s ~£560 figure measures premiums actually paid, which is a different basis — the comparison here uses quoted data against quoted data. Picking a group 16–18 petrol or hybrid pulls the C5 Aircross closer to the average.
The 1.2 PureTech 130 petrol in entry Sense trim (group 16 on the 2018–2025 car) is the cheapest C5 Aircross to cover, where our over-50 sample quote was about £705 a year. Among current cars the 1.2 Hybrid 145 in You trim (group 18) is the cheapest new option. The plug-in hybrid and electric versions all rate groups 27–30, so there is no cheap pick among them — the drivetrain, not the trim, is what decides the price.
For the petrol and self-charging hybrid versions, yes. A 1.2 PureTech 130 or Hybrid 145 in groups 16–20 is competitively grouped for a mid-size family SUV — slightly lower than a like-for-like Peugeot 3008 and well below a Dacia Bigster on many trims. It carries no theft premium and its claims profile is dominated by low-speed knocks. The plug-in hybrid and electric versions are a harder case for a keen-price policy because of the battery loading in groups 27–30.
They are close, because the two SUVs share the same underpinnings and much of the same running gear. The mainstream C5 Aircross petrol and hybrid versions rate marginally lower than the equivalent Peugeot 3008 trims, so a like-for-like C5 Aircross often quotes a touch cheaper. At the top of both ranges the plug-in hybrid and electric versions converge in the high-20s to group 30, where premiums are driven by battery repair costs rather than the badge. Always compare the exact trim and drivetrain rather than the model name.
Both, in the wrong direction. Paying monthly instead of annually typically adds around 7–10% over the year because instalments carry interest, so the annual lump sum is almost always cheaper. Modifications — from alloys to remaps or towbars — must be declared and usually raise the premium on a car whose group rating assumes standard, cheap-to-repair parts; an undeclared modification can void a claim entirely.
